Don't Cry

[Scene]: Inside a one room log-cabin. In the middle of a clearing in
a dark and forboding forest. A full moon would have lit up the interior
through the west-facing window, if there had not been a fire, burning
with intensity, in a woodburning stove, the door of which lies open.
The room lacks furniture except for a large double bed, the stove, a
table, and various chairs (including an armchair big enough for two).
Lying at the side of the armchair is a guitar. In the armchair sits a
young man, in his late twenties, and a young women, in her mid twenties.

[Sam]: Look out of the window, my dear. The moon shines so bright and
so strong. I'll be like the moon, soon. <smiles>

{The young man looks tired and weary, sick even, of an illness (the name
of which it's unnecessary to know, except to say it could be one of many
which all lead to the same conclusion - Death). and his thoughts are
those of relief from the pain of living. He worries not for himself, but
for her, his lover, his soulmate.}

[Sam]: <looks at his partner's profile as she gazes out of the window>
<places a finger on her forehead and traces it down over her nose,
stopping on her lower lip> You are heavenly, Ariadne, I'm sure that at
least one of your parents must have been a God.

[Ariadne]: <turns her head to face him and smiles, though it is a sad
smile and you can see that she is not far from tears><kisses his finger>
How much time do you think we have left?

[Sam]: Not long, I feel it in my heart. But time is relative and we can
make those moments last forever. Pray let me sing for you, just one
last time?

[Ariadne]: <crying now>Of course. Bu...but...please don't leave me.

[Sam]: <picks up the guitar and starts to play><sings>Talk to me softly.
There's something in your eyes. Don't hang your head in sorrow, and
please don't cry. I know how you feel inside. I've, I've been there
before. Something is changin' inside you, and don't you know. Don't you
cry tonight. I still love you, baby. Don't you cry tonight. Don't you
cry tonight, there's a heaven above you, baby. And don't you cry tonight.
<coughs>

[Ariadne]: <lays her head on his shoulder><can't stop crying>

[Sam]: <still singing>Give me a whisper, and give me a sigh. Ah. Give me
a kiss before you tell me goodbye. Don't you take it so hard now, and
please don't take it so bad. I'll still be thinking of you and the times
we had, baby. And don't you cry tonight. Don't you cry tonight. Don't you
cry tonight, there's a heaven above you, baby. And don't you cry tonight.

[Ariadne]: No, Sam, no.

[Sam]: <still singing>And please remember that I never lied. Oh, and
please remember how I felt inside, now, honey. You gotta make it your
own way, but you'll be alright now sugar. You'll feel better tomorrow
come the morning light, now, baby. And don't you cry tonight. And don't
you cry tonight. And don't you cry tonight, there's a heaven above you,
baby. And don't you cry. Don't you ever cry. Don't you cry tonight, baby,
maybe someday. And don't you cry. Don't you ever cry. Don't you cry,
<gasps>tonight. <drops guitar and collapses into Ariadne's arms>

[Ariadne]: <still crying, but looking shocked>But you said you'd never
leave me. <rocks Sam in her arms>
